INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO THE CLASS. LEARN ALL OF YOUR STUDENTS' NAMES

1.

In the beginning if the school year, I was able to get accquainted with the students and their names before they entered the classroom. My CT's had already placed them in their assigned seat. In the image, I blurred out the names of the students but it shows where every student is in the classroom. This helped me a tremendously the first few days of internship because I could use this seating chart as a guide whenever I walked around the classroom and intereacted with the students. I introduced myself to the students the very first day and explained that I would be in their classroom because I was a USF intern.

2.

LINE STUDENTS UP AND TAKE THEM TO LUNCH OR SPECIALS

Lining up the students and taking them to specials is one of the only times that I am alone with my students. This gives me the oppurtunity to use my on behavior management strategies and see what works well to keep them quiet and attentive in line as we walk through the halls. I think doing this makes the students respect me as an adult a little more because they know I have high expectations for how they conduct themselves, even when they are away from their teachers. I try to remind studentsof how they are expected to act to and from music and them compliment the individual students who are showing me that they are leaders.

3.

TAKE THE LEAD ON AT LEAST ONE PART OF THE MORNING ROUTINE

Managing the classroom store is probably one of the first things I do in the morning. Students are given a rockstar buck at the end of each day if they stay on "green" that they can use to buy things from the store in the morning before the bell rings. Students can save up their rockstar bucks to buy more expensive items that cost up to 5$ that are locted on the bottom drawer. I like this classroom store because it teaches students the value of money, how to save, and budget for things you want.

4.

TAKE THE LEAD ON THE DISMISSAL ROUTINE

Dismissal is one of my favorite parts of the day because it gives me an oppurtunity to connect with my students on a personal level since they are unwinding from the day and often speak about what they can't wait to do when they go home. I like to personally say goodbye to each of my students as I release them to their buses. In the second piture, I am passing out the rockstar bucks to the students who stayed on "green" for the day before they go to the car rider line.

5.

ORGANIZE MATERIALS NEEDED FOR A LESSON

I really like how my CT's have set up the classroom. It provides an efficient way to distribute and hold materials for students so that they are not all on the students desks. For math and science lessons, we places whatever materials needed in the black box for each desk group. We have one of the students from each group distribute the materials to the group. This allows for the students to be active participants in their learning and also negates students fighting over materials and who gets them first.

6.

HELP STUDENTS RESOLVE A CONFLICT

In our classroom, we try to support conflict resolve as much as possible and in many ways. One way that we do this in our classroom is by allowing the students to go into the classroom Safezone. If a students is upset, mad, sad, or just isn't having a good day, they can place themselves in the SafeZone. Sometimes I may suggest if the student would want to go into the Safezone but it is souly their choice if they want to go. The Safezone is not a time out or a punishment for the students. It is located in a corner of the room where they won't be disturbed with different activities they can do when they are they. A lot of the students like to either write in the journal or use the blue mat that helps them calm their feelings using different breathing exercises.
